I think people who ask “how can she know she’s bisexual at twelve?” are missing a really important point: that sexuality can be pretty damn fluid. I’ve identified as bisexual; when I was about fourteen I most definitely was bi. I’m not now. But that doesn’t mean I wasn’t when I was fourteen! I fucking was. I was a sexual being, with desires, and I wanted girls AND boys. Just because my sexuality has changed and evolved and transformed doesn’t mean I wasn’t dreaming of soft female lips back then.

And a twelve year old has just as much right to indentify and name her desires as any of us. Some people don’t know their sexual orientation at three times her age.

I think you’re completely right when you say that the important thing is she can identify it now and she has the strength to say it. The future is completely beside the point.
